Auditing Courses

Auditing is open to teachers, parents, and others who wish to attend our matriculated programs without credit at a discounted price. Attending a matriculated program as an auditor is almost like attending a workshop: There are no admissions requirements, no credit is given for audited courses, and anything you complete as an auditor will not count toward a diploma or degree program. The costs reflect this and are based on the cost of attending workshops and other non-matriculated events.

What you need to know as an auditor:

  • Auditors are not considered matriculated students
  • Not all courses and programs are open to auditors
  • No records or transcripts are kept of any courses taken as an auditor
  • No student ID is issued to auditors
  • Auditors are not eligible for student discounts (in the bookstore or on RSC events and workshops)
  • No financial aid is available to auditors
  • A certificate of registration is available for $10 per course with registration, or $35 per course after registration. No records will be available after the courses end. A certificate of registration cannot be used for equivalent Foundation or Teacher Education course credit
  • Registrations or cancelations cannot be handled by phone. All cancelations must be in writing—by letter, fax, or e-mail
  • Cancelation Requests MUST Include the following:
    • Name
    • LAST DATE of attendance
    • Address (where to mail refund)
    • LAST PERIOD of attendance
  • Refunds are calculated from the date of the cancelation notice. Classes missed before notification of cancelation cannot be refunded or exchanged.

Programs and Courses with classes open to Auditors

Please note: Not all classes offered in the above programs are open to auditors. Please contact the Registrar for information on which classes are available to audit, and for details on course times and fees by emailing rsc@steinercollege.edu or by calling 916-961-8727 ext.122.

How to Audit Classes

  1. Contact the Registrar's Office for information on programs currently open to auditors. Please note that the Summer Foundation Courses have a form available for download from the Tuition and Admissions Forms webpage - the form for  the following summer is usually avaialble by mid-April.

  3. Payments may be made via US CHECK, US MONEY ORDER, CREDIT CARD, of CASH (do not send cash by mail) and are due before your first class begins.
  4. Registration check-in: Please make arrangements to meet with the Registrar before your first class to complete your registration. This will include checking-in, signing an Auditing Agreement and other documents, making any remaining payments, and receiving an up-to-date schedule.

What about International guests?

International visitors may audit a course or take any workshops; they must obtain a visitor's visa, and are limited to 18 hours per week. A student visa is not required. The U.S. allows most countries a 90-day visitor's visa. To stay longer as a visitor means obtaining a B1 visa from the U.S. embassy in your country.

An international visitor who stays longer than 90 days on a visitor's visa may jeopardize their ability to come into the U.S. in the future. Rudolf Steiner College and any of its staff or faculty are not responsible for anything that may occur between a U.S. Immigration Officer and an international visitor entering the U.S. with the intention of coming to the Rudolf Steiner College to audit a course or attend a workshop.

Housing

Auditors on our Fair Oaks campus are welcome to stay in the on-campus housing, subject to availability. Please see the Housing webpage for further information and current rates. Contact housing@steinercollege.edu to check on availability (please note that availability during the summer term is limited).

Meals
